There is a severe thunderstorm watch for area counties, including Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Union in North Carolina, and Chester and York in South Carolina.

Forecast:
- We have some big changes on the way as we head to the weekend.
- Stronger storm risks build up this afternoon which will last well into the evening.
- Heavy, slow-moving downpours may lead to flooding concerns along with some strong wind gusts.
- This all comes from a cold front moving through the Carolinas tonight.
- Storm chances then drop off tomorrow and the humidity levels drop off nicely by Sunday.
- Temps stay just shy of 90 degrees through the weekend.
- Quiet and pleasant weather looks to be on tap for the first day of school for CMS next Tuesday.
