Tornado warning issued for Alexander, Catawba, Iredell, and Lincoln counties until 7 p.m.
- Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Alexander, Caldwell, Catawba, Iredell, Ashe and Watauga counties until 6:30 p.m.
- Flash Flood Warning for Ashe County until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
- Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 p.m.
FORECAST:
- Weather alerts are in effect as strong to severe storms are expected to move across the Carolinas this evening.
- The primary threats include damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to the size of golf balls, and the potential for a brief spin-up tornado.
- The greatest tornado risk will develop along an approaching cold front later this evening, with the highest threat focused across the High Country.
- Storms are expected to develop over the mountains this afternoon before moving into the Piedmont.
- While forecast models differ slightly on the exact timing, the most likely window for severe weather is between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., with most storms ending by around 11 p.m.
- Behind the front, much drier air will move into the region on Wednesday, bringing several days of pleasant weather through the end of the workweek.
- The next significant chance for rain is expected Sunday into Monday, helping keep afternoon temperatures in the 80s through the weekend.
