FIREWORKS FORECAST: Possible storms to fire up ahead of July 4 fireworks

Thunderstorms will start to develop during the afternoon and early evening hours and may impact some fireworks displays. Those storms will be capable of producing very heavy rain, strong wind and lightning.

Pockets of fog were an issue early Tuesday morning, reducing visibility to just feet in some neighborhoods as we start the Fourth of July holiday. Similar to Monday, highs will reach the low 90s with heat index values climbing as high as the upper 90s in some areas.

A few storms fired up Tuesday afternoon which prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Chester and York counties in the early afternoon. Residents in the area saw lightning, heavy winds and hail.

The wet weather will clear overnight as temperatures drop back into the low 70s.

Highs will stay in the 90s through the rest of the work week and we can expect the humidity to continue as well. The threat for thunderstorms remains but will decrease through Friday.

The upcoming weekend looks drier and slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 80s, under a mix of sun and clouds. Humidity levels will also drop heading into Saturday and Sunday.

UPTOWN CHARLOTTE: Heat and humidity will be a major factor for Fourth of July events on Tuesday in uptown. Highs will reach the low 90s, with heat index values reaching well into the mid-to-upper 90s across the metro. Scattered thunderstorms will be possible throughout the afternoon and evening hours, threatening some fireworks shows. Any storms that form will be capable of producing heavy rain, strong wind and lightning.
